Marriage Proposal Checklist for Tamil Christian Families
2 October 2026
When a marriage proposal comes, families often feel pressure to decide quickly. A simple checklist helps you slow down and check what matters.
Faith and church
Is the person baptised and active in a church? Does their pastor know them? Do you share beliefs about worship, giving and serving? Speak to the church leaders if you can.
Family background
Meet the parents, learn about siblings, and understand how the family lives and makes decisions. Ask politely about expectations regarding living arrangements and responsibilities.
Education and work
Confirm qualifications and employment through documents or reliable references rather than only through what is written in a profile. Stable work and honesty about it matter more than a large number.
Health and personal history
Ask openly about health, previous marriages or engagements, and any commitments such as loans or caring for relatives. Honesty at this stage prevents hardship later.
Character
Spend time with the person in different settings, with family around. How do they talk about others? How do they handle disagreement? Character shows in small things.
Pray and take time
Pray together as a family, and do not be rushed. A proposal that is right will still be right after another few weeks of careful checking.
